Spring is here and so is your new skincare routine. Have a read below on our top tips to freshen up your look with some of our favourite sustainable products from The Body Shop.

1 | Spring clean your cosmetics

A super important (but often avoided) part of your beauty routine is cleaning your make-up brushes. While it’s no fun task, if left undone, can result in dirty caked-up brushes, spreading bacteria (ahh!) and all types of nasties over your face. Not only that, letting your brushes cake up can decrease their shelf life significantly, meaning you’ll have to spend more $$$ on new ones.

Spring is a gentle reminder to give all your make-up tools a good freshen up. It’s as easy as running your brushes under warm water and washing them with a gentle cleanser – we recommend Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash. Investing in a brush cleaner like the one below will make it a heck of a lot easier!

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash – a cleansing gel-based facial wash, suitable for everyday use. 250ML RRP $19.95
Silicone brush cleaner – keep your make-up brushes in tip-top condition with this nifty little silicone brush cleaner. The clever ridged design is ideal for banishing excess residue and maintaining the softness and shape of your makeup brushes. RRP $8.95

2 | Scrub away the winter blues

Scrub away any buildup of old dead, winter skin. By using an exfoliator a few times a week, with a super hydrating moisturizer, you will be able to reveal your glowy spring ready skin. Some of our fave exfoliators for this spring include:

Vitamin C glow boosting microdermabrasion – fine exfoliating micro particles and crushed garnet stones remove dead skin cells to reveal a brighter, more radiant completion. RRP $42.50
Tea tree squeaky-clean scrub – micro-fine exfoliants with bursting beads to help unclog pores without over drying. RRP $26.50

3 | Check expiration dates

It’s a good idea to remember to do this at least twice a year – and what better time than spring? Make-up expires quicker than we think, and using expired products can expose us to risk of infection and breakouts. As a general rule of thumb, you should replace your mascara every three months, eyeliner and eye shadow every six to 12 months and lipstick every one and a half years. The average expiration date for foundation and powder is about 12 months.

If you do find that some of your favourite pieces have expired, look no further. We have popped a few of the best staple make up items below.

Super volume mascara 01 Black – The Body Shops classic mascara gives lashings of volume, intense colour and coats without clumping. RRP $28.95
Moisture Foundation 05 SPF15 – A lightweight moisturizing, long-lasting liquid foundation that provides light to medium coverage with a flawless, dewy finish. A super bonus with SPF15! RRP $42.95
All-in-one Face Base 04 – A foundation and powder in one neat compact. Use dry for a light matte finish or wet for high coverage. Perfect for on-the-go touch ups! RRP $43.95
Baked-to-last bronzer 02 Warm Glow – A natural looking bronzer with a subtle shimmer. Handmade and slow-baked on a terracotta disc. RRP $48.75

4 | Swap out the heavy stuff

As you bid farewell to winter, you should also bid farewell to creamy cleansers and heavy moisturisers. Yes, in winter, your skin absolutely needs the extra protection and hydration to help fight off the wicked winter wind, but as we head to the sunnier months, it’s time for a change.

Skin care specialists recommend us to use foaming cleansers and oil free moisturisers, which go on light and smooth, but are rich enough to quench skin without kick-starting excessive oil production. The Body Shops Vitamin E Moisture Cream does just that.

Vitamin E Moisture Cream – It is a lightweight, easily absorbed facial moisturiser, with Vitamin E, which protects and locks in moisture for all-day hydration. RRP $47.25
